AGE GROUP FORMATS

Each block links to the official England Football guide for that format, including pitch, ball and game-setup guidance.

SEASON STRUCTURE

Competitive structure varies by age group: development age groups (U7–U11) play leagues plus Trophy Events, while older age groups (U12–U21) play leagues plus knockout Cup competitions. The number of competitions run in an age group can vary each season depending on how many teams enter.

U12–U21 fixtures may be affected by County Cup commitments, which take priority over League fixtures.

CUP COMPETITIONS

Cup competitions are seeded by ability and split into separate competitions per age group depending on how many teams enter.

In terms of how cup competitions per age group this will be determined pre-season based on the number of divisions per age group.

Matches are played under standard League rules (with extra time and 5 penalties for finals only) as above if scores are level.

  • Players may only play for one team in a cup competition — clubs should check registrations to avoid fielding a cup-tied player.
  • A team fielding an ineligible player will be removed from the competition, fined, and the match awarded to the opposition.
  • If you are the home team for a cup fixture, update Full-Time with the venue and kick-off time as soon as possible, ideally at least one month in advance.
  • The referee fee for cup matches is shared 50/50 between both clubs; the League covers officials for Finals.
  • Winners and runners-up receive an award.

Referee Fees can be found here.

TROPHY EVENTS

Trophy Events give Under 7 to Under 11 teams a taste of competitive football without published results or tables (only winners and runners-up are named). Formats vary — seeded groups, end-of-season tournaments, ladder competitions or a Champions League-style format — and may run at central venues or at a host club's ground.

  • Under 7 and Under 8 events are normally played at central venues, with match durations adjusted to meet FA guidance on how much football a player has in a day.
  • Matches may mix round-robin and knockout formats across more than one weekend; details are confirmed in advance by the League.
  • In knockout matches level after normal time, extra time is normally two 5-minute halves (may vary for central venue events), followed by three penalties each and sudden death if still level.
  • Where events are held at central venues, results are collected on the day and don't need to be reported through Full-Time; match statistics aren't required.

Specific rules for an individual Trophy Event are confirmed by the League in advance of that event and may vary from the general guidance above.
